Invisible Engineering
Heritage Retrofit
Eunice and Hans's home had stood for two hundred years. They wanted to dramatically cut its energy use — working towards near-Passivhaus performance alongside architects Cousins & Cousins and energy specialists Enhabit — without a single visible trace of how.
No vents. No grilles.
Nothing that gave away the engineering running through the walls.
Achieving that standard in a Victorian building means integrating complex air flow and insulation systems throughout the fabric of the house.
We worked the mechanical systems directly into the fitted joinery — every duct, every air point, absorbed and concealed but fully functional. It took precise coordination between furniture design and building services, with no compromise on either side.
The result, in Eunice and Hans's words:
"The finished result feels classically Victorian, consumes a small fraction of the energy it originally did... and is an absolute joy to be in."
